Nazareth Hospital’s outreach to its community comes in many forms.
On average, seventy-five children attend Joy Camp each year, the majority of campers range in age from 7 to 12. All are welcome.
This week-long day camp helps to instill the message of Jesus’ divine, unconditional love and compassion for one another in the hearts of the young children of Nazareth. Joy Camp helps kids build new friendships and fosters personal and spiritual growth.
It only takes $50 to sponsor a child for one week of meals, stories, crafts, and fun-filled sports and games.
“We see in this camp an opening to share Jesus with children in a caring, fun, and full-of-love atmosphere. The Hospital is giving us a great opportunity to serve the Lord in this humble, simple, and fun way.”
–Najla Hamati, pastoral care team member
Najla is a member of the hospital’s pastoral care team and has been very involved with the camp from the beginning. The team envisioned it as a great way to connect with and to bless the many families represented by the hospital. What began as a program for children of hospital employees has grown to include the wider Nazareth community.
Each year has a different theme. At the end of the camp, a program is held for the children’s families to highlight the week of activities and to show what they have learned. Children and their families use Facebook to stay in touch with the counselors after camp ends, maintaining an encouraging presence in each others’ lives.
Fees help to cover daily breakfasts and lunches, tee shirts, craft supplies, renting tarps for shade, and other equipment. The hospital offers its outdoor gathering space, sports courts, and auditorium to the children at no cost, and covers the insurance.
Please pray for these children, their families, and all the volunteers who help with Joy Camp.
