Nancy Martin Memorial Scholarship Fund

Photo of Dr. Nancy MartinIn October 2019, the family of Dr. Nancy Martin and Nazareth Project created the Nancy Martin Memorial Scholarship Fund to provide financial assistance to nursing students at Nazareth School of Nursing. Within six months nearly $50,000 was raised.

Nancy served as Director of Nursing Education at Nazareth School of Nursing from 1987 to 1995 while her husband, Dr. Bob Martin, served as Medical Director at Nazareth Hospital.

At Nancy’s memorial service on October 5, 2019, Richard Mayhew, former CEO of Nazareth Trust, said: “Nancy is known and remembered for her love and compassion for the students and staff, and for her determination and resoluteness over so many years in establishing today’s Nazareth School of Nursing, the only Arab School of Nursing in Israel.”

At the end of 2023 we surpassed our goal of raising $200,000 towards the Nancy Martin Memorial Scholarship Fund. The total at years end was $215,605.

The fund will provide scholarships to lower-income and high-achieving nursing students at Nazareth School of Nursing. The school is the only Arabic-language nursing school in Israel. Many students need scholarship assistance since they come from poor families.

Beginning in mid-2024, the Nancy Martin Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund plans to begin disbursing funds to the Bursary Fund at the Nazareth Academic School of Nursing. Individual scholarships will range from 1,000 to 2,000 Shekels ($290 – $580). In spring of 2022, twenty students received scholarships of 2,000 Shekels (1/3 the average monthly income for employed Arab-Israelis).
